it was in my drive only last night...
em checking the snow fall amounts before she went to bed - she keeps a bowl outside because she likes to eat it...
this morning? 30" not counting the drifting!
no car, it was parked behind the suburban - (photo taken from an upstairs window)
no bowl -
stay warm!

soar
'it came into him life; it went out from him truth.
it came to him short-lived actions; it went from him poetry.
it was a dead fact; now, it is quick thought.
it can stand, and it can go.
it now endures, it now flies, it now inspires.
precisely in proportion to the depth of mind
from which it issued,
so high does it soar, so long does it live.'
~ ralph waldo emerson
and on a lighter note,
it's snowing again!
last night alex was playing with an eraser and he made
a happy ice cube
a sad rain drop
and an angry puddle
his little ritual to the snow gods worked i guess!! this past week all but melted the piles from the blizzard... expected to get 10-14" with this one... hoping my brother will get in from san diego tomorrow morning ok...
and i had just packed up the snow pants, boots, etc that had been living in my foyer since december! i think my neighbors would prefer i take my snowflake lightups from the windows, there is talk that this is all my fault! i figured they could hang around until 2.28...

on soup and snow and bovine sounds ~
first and foremost, a huge thank you to organizer extraordinaire lori anderson for hosting the bead soup party... a really wonderful activity - and i was so happy to be introduced to so many incredibly talented people... thanks to all of you who stopped by and left a comment... there was a very long list of participants, so i appreciate the time you took ~ (don't forget to post your pics to the flickr group so we can look at them all together)

it is the preview
of life's coming attractions'

a few pictures of the nor'easter that blew up the east coast - this is tuesday afternoon with remnants of saturday's snowfall...
the first flakes began to fall on tuesday night for us - the narnian lamppost came to mind...
yesterday, you couldn't even see the river...
'sunshine cannot bleach the snow,
nor time unmake what poets know.'

i just got myself some real business cards... for environmental reasons, i was trying to do something homemade... but it wasn't cutting it... these moo cards were a happy compromise... and i looooooooove them!
how can you not love a company that puts this in their packaging!
off to try new things - yay!

you could've fooled me -
that it's technically still autumn - until tomorrow!
'i prefer winter and fall,
when you feel the bone structure of the landscape -
the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter.
something waits beneath it,
the whole story doesn't show.'
~ andrew wyeth

where's waldo - only with sparrows!
a cat's way to spend the day ~
'a catless writer is almost inconceivable.
it's a perverse taste, really,
since it would be easier to write with a herd
of buffalo in the room than even one cat;
they make nests in the notes
and bite the ends of the pen
and walk on the typewriter keys.'

it took the force of nature...
to get me centered ~
and that somehow feels so very right...
the east coast is under siege from a nor'easter - snow and winds... they are calling for over a foot here, which doesn't happen often as we live near the beach - which often warms the air and keeps our snow accumulations down... which bums the kids out when the towns just west and north of us get snow days and they don't...
here is what we awoke to - (and i am hoping for some cool after pics)
more importantly for me - it took this storm to calm me down... it's like i got a pass today from going to the stores and rushing around... instead it will be spent in the house, decorating our tree and baking cookies... i really like the way snow can make you feel like you are in a cocoon... insulating and beautiful...
hope this weather does you no harm and that you are able to enjoy the beauty and quietude it brings...

'in the depths' is a bezel created with the symbols of the lotus and om stamped into it... as if to infuse a calming energy... in the resin i set pieces of fiber and fabric... they flash from the depths when the light is right... like labradorite or opal... it's kind of magical...'wise men speak because they have something to say;
fools because they have to say something.'
~ plato
'pearls of wisdom' bezel has pearls and amethyst set within resin... wisdom is garnered from experience, laced with the beauty of knowledge gained.... amethyst is known to be calming and protective, something needed while facing life's challenges...hope this weather does you no harm and that you are able to enjoy the beauty and quietude it brings...
