grateful for a 64 color world...

life is like a box of crayons. most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you're really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. i fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though i've got a few missing. it's ok though, because i've got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. i have a bit of a problem though in that i can only meet the 8-color boxes. does anyone else have that problem? i mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation.. so when I meet someone who's an 8-color type.. i'm like, hey girl, magenta! and she's like, oh, you mean purple! and she goes off on her purple thing, and i'm like, no - i want magenta!
- john mayer

this quote made me smile (it doesn't limit itself to partners in my mind) and  i just wanted to share it...

the blogging community that i have found myself now very attached to has really stretched me in so many ways... there are people doing awesome things creatively with their art, people thinking deeper and sharing insights, people allowing us to see the world through their eyes... it's awesome...

i find that my thinking is altering from 'can i?' to 'i can sure try'... and my kids do the same - one is involved in writer's realm & loves photoshop, another draws and does impressions (you should hear his mrs. doubtfire) and another is a creative thinker who is addicted to glass blowing... they inspire me... while the goal is always to be a great role model for my kids, i really do want to maximize whatever time it is i have here...

the final line of the song 'can't stop' by the red hot chili peppers (love their music - we were at the concert where they recorded their 'snow, hey oh' video) always leaves me mindful

'this life is more than just a read through.'
kids off to school this am, feeling a huge itch to get going doing something, but having too many ideas at once... inspired by what you all are doing and thinking... need to take a breath and center...
thanks for sharing your 64 color world!

  1. I am so glad that you think we are 64 colors. I always thought of myself as being technicolor. I wonder if most people that read here will even know what technicolor is. I may have just dated myself.

I have really expanded my thinking since I have been involved in blogging and the internet. My grandson tells me all the time that I think too deep. I tell him he should think deeper.

  2. no such thing as thinking too deeply... overthinking, yes... but introspection is expansive...

  3. isn't it wonderful? i too am of the 64 color variety, a few missing...a few broken; or points too dull to stay within the lines-it's all good though, i rather like it here.

thanks for this, and yay for back to school. teaching during the day helps balance all of the abstract thinking, i'm a better person for it.

  4. What a wonderful quote! I too feel a kinship with that big 'ol box of 64 Crayolas. And since Chloe has started her venture into crayons, I love it when she picks out the Crayolas out of her little tin Star Wars lunchbox.

There is just something to them - and I can't wait to see where she goes in life with this as one of her foundations...

And the connection to those individual colors too - those characteristics of the crayons, the things that were colored, the memories and thoughts held within each... Lots of daydreaming to be had with those crayons!

  5. I am so magenta on you Mary Jane!
I agree that now is the most fabulous time filled with creativity and collaboration and goodwill among beaders and other like minded bloggers. I love that quote by John Mayer (and I know I have said this before, but I am amazed at the wonderful quotes you find!)
    Thanks for your inspiration!
    Enjoy the day!

  6. tameka, me too! the short, broken and lost ones were often the most loved colors!
marsha - there is nothing like a new box of crayons - big box - all of the possibilities right in front of you! orange trees, purple giraffes... for some reason, red-orange was always a fav of mine... it is so fun to see your child create... my little girl, now 17, had an easel early and loved to paint too... because i loved the spectrum i tried to put things away in 'rainbow' order - now the poor kid does the same thing! confession, even my fiesta ware gets put away in that order... i just the the color transitions...
erin, i am so ultraviolet on you! :o) i love quotes, i love hearing what others think, it inspires me and keeps the synapses firing!

  7. M. J. What a great family picture. And your work is stupendous! I'm partial to "hidden treasure" and "won't melt in your hands." My colors! Is hidden treasure for sale? I didn't see it on your Artfire shop.

  11. What a great quote! I just sent it to my husband at his job. I am sure I will get a reply from him soon about how much it reflects his professional life presently. His box is overflowing with crayons :), but at his new job, he is surrounded by 8-color box people who don't even understand or consider having more than 8 crayons in a box.

Fortunately, we have many great colorful friends. :)

    Thanks!
