'for what is it to die,
but to stand in the sun
and melt into the wind.'
~ khalil gibran
death is a universal truth... yet we don't talk about it... because it involves emotional pain and fear... death can come at times expected or unexpected... but it does come... and at the same time, we live... for that is what we do...
these words have to be some of the most beautiful i have ever read and i knew they had to be shared... because i want you to have these words in your memory bank too... as my grandmother reaches the end of her days, i hope that this is what leaving the physical realm will feel like for her (and does for all)... a final exhale becoming one with the wind... and moving on to becoming a part of everything...
What a beautiful, poignant thought, Maire. Thank you for sharing, and I wish peace and love for your grandmother and your family. It's never easy to say goodbye.
ReplyDeleteMJ I'm sorry you're facing this loss...I too hope that the words above reflect reality for your grandmother. Thinking of you...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post Maire...... I love Gibran's writing..... I truly believe that our inevitable death is not the end all...rather a new beginning for us.....I believe this from having held the hands of dying patients in my practice as a nurse. A priviledge for me, and a very telling experience.
ReplyDeleteHow very lucky you are, to have had the pleasure of having your grandmother for so long. It is never easy to let our loved ones go. I wish your grandmother a peaceful passage to the next part of her journey. And I wish you a peaceful heart when she takes that step. xo
ReplyDeleteAhh death , so real but so difficult to grasp. I am glad your grandmother has had a long life here on Earth. It is one of things I like least about my day job, delivering news that transition is close, I am not sure how graceful I will be when I reach that point, we get so comfy in our present digs , it is hard to imagine being without these present molecules. Impeccable quote, Gibran is such an inspiration! ( shhh as are you! )
ReplyDeleteyou are in my thoughts and prayers. as ever, my friend.

ReplyDeleteomg ... that was achingly beautiful my fren.
ReplyDeletei think the most powerful and beautiful words in this post came from you "a final exhale becoming one with the wind... and moving on to becoming a part of everything..." ... i truly believe so. we are all part of this cosmic energy that we live (and die) in ...
sweet healing blessings to you my fren ... this post has just made my day very very different ...
"YES, thou art gone! and never more
ReplyDeleteThy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee,
May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.
Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;
To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere. "
