trust
that all you need
to tend not just to your wounds
but those of others
is already within you.

and expand into all.

and so we breathe and examine who we are -

safe space pins - for the light holder,
love bringer and seeker of inner peace

this is how i begin to respond - by seeking ways to connect people, perhaps finding a way to tap into community and alleviate some pain. i saw that safety pins are being worn to signify that the wearer holds a safe space. this resonates deeply with me. as one who was sexually abused as a child, raped as a teen then ended up in abusive adult relationships - what was validated by much of our populace has left me feeling shaky - and much less than safe. i didn't use to talk about my past. but when one realizes how many people keep it tucked away in shame, in fear of not being believed, or worse, blamed, holding silence helps no one.

this happens with or without an election - a desire for the feeling of safety and security runs deep in beings. when it is threatened, our world can feel out of kilter, threatening even.

so i will be making these pins - lovely little bulb pins from merchant and mills - with stones believed to have powerful metaphysical properties to support you - amethyst, garnet, moonstone and more. and will donate towards non-profits that are going to have their work cut out for them.

wearing this small little pin, might put someone who is extremely currently anxious a bit at ease. it might allow us to look each other in the eye.

and while ultimately this should be so anyway, for those who have been on the ugly end of xenophobia, racism, misogyny, perhaps they might feel a bit safer in the world. even if they've just gone out to get groceries.

a small bit of history on this - it began after the brexit decision in the uk. and represents that you stand beside those who are in the crosshairs.

in terms of showing solidarity, it also has ties to the #illridewithyou movement in sydney. there, people offered to sit next to muslims who were feeling threatened during their commutes. this occurred following the rise in islamophobia following a terrorist attack.

while i know people here are wearing a simple, emptied safety pin - i thought it would be of benefit to both the supporter and supported to attach the minerals.

call to arms - and hearts and souls

we have been issued a challenge:

cave to the negativity
or rise above it.

these are the moments in your life that matter, that define you.
when things don't go the way you'd hoped
when you thought you were on the cusp
of the end of the negativity
and that things would get better.
how do you choose to respond?

:: the light is you ::

when you are ensconced in darkness
it may seem as if darkness
is all that exists -

that there can only be more
of what you are feeling
and experiencing.

but the truth of the matter
is that at the core of darkness
one finds light.

as long as you live and breathe
as long as you have choices to make
it's there.

you must trust
and open,
because the light is you.

set yourself free
and shine.

for when you do,
you illuminate the world.

-----

and people -
we need to become beacons
bright bold and guiding.

give yourself some time to mourn, to let the shock subside and then dig deep.

because this is our reality.

there's no use
in wishing for something different.

we've been given
another opportunity
to rise
and shine.

do you accept it?

from paper to metal to paper

words...

they have always been important to me - as a child, i would read through my grandparents' bartlett's book of quotations. i was fascinated by how people had lived & what they spoke about, what others have felt is important to be remembered and referred to.

when i first started blogging, i would share words that had inspired me in the making of adornment.

but then i started sharing my own thoughts on the work - and how the work shaped the words.

simple phrases would have larger descriptions.

then larger passages made their way onto metal work - at the prompting of an online peer.

first set in bowls and then made into wall plaques.

and now it comes back to the written word - and pages of my own. i have compiled two books of my writings - one with photos of the work, one a traveler's companion. my hope is that the traveler's companion will be put in a pocket or backpack or such and get worn, written in, pages folded - used.

it is here that i feel most vulnerable, for the compositions in words come from the heart and spirit. nothing is hidden and it is definitely non-fiction. but so too is it sincere, with a deep desire to connect from a place of love and understanding - to foster peace and compassion.
