and this i hope for you ~

a very dear friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer last year... i made a promise to myself that she would receive earrings from me to help her feel beautiful even when she had lost all of her hair, was feeling sick, was feeling sad... last month she had her reconstruction, a year after her mastectomy... and i hope that this will be the last pair of earrings i give her with breast cancer in mind...

a lover of quotes as well, she shared with me one of her favorites~

'in the depths of winter i finally learned there was in me an invincible summer.'
~albert camus

these 'double entendre' earrings are meant to be a play on breasts (or tatas)... and a farewell address, hoping so much for her that this closes out a chapter in her life's book...

there are a number of women in the blogosphere trying to raise money for this disease... mellisa of chinook jewelry design and kelly snelling at 'a charming exchange' are two that i know of with auctions... erin of 'treasures found'  has shared information on blogging for a cause...

hopefully, someday, we will be able to bid cancer itself 'adieu' ...

  3. Thanks for the mention Mary Jane! Those are great earrings and I love the double meaning :) She's lucky to have a friend who thinks to do something like that to keep her spirits up.

  6. I love your play on words for the earrings. They should bring a smile to her face. I wish her the very best. It's hard to conceive going through something so traumatic. Friends get us through the roughest of times. I'm sure you are a blessing to her during this ordeal.

  7. I remember when the big "C" was a death sentence. We've come a long way, but have a long way to go. What a wonderful thing you did for your friend. I'm sure the earrings will give her great pleasure, not only because of your love for her, but because they are inherently beautiful.

  8. What a fun sentiment, those earrings will certainly bring a smile to her face. A true friend is a blessing to a friend in need.

My sister has battled Lymphoma for more years than she should have.. I had made her a typewriter key bracelet that said "Hope". We hope everyday that she continues to stay healthy.

  14. this topic always does elicit such an amazing response... very nice, but very sad at the same time that we all know so very many people... while it is hard to find anything light hearted about the subject, when you can bring a little levity, it's a good thing!
