one evening, an old cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside of people. he said, 'my son, the battle is between 'two wolves' that live inside us all.
one is evil. it is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority & ego.
the other is good. it is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion & faith.'
the grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, 'which wolf wins?'

beautiful pendant by mary ann carroll ... i came around the long way to this pendant via mellisa's post this am which linked to this blog and then triggered my memory of this story... goes right along with my stream-of-consciousness thinking...
That's always been one of my favorite stories! Awesome pendant, too.
ReplyDeletethat is the coolest pendant EVER!!!! i think I have one schizophrenic wolf. (p.s. I responded to your email about the copper work, but it bounced back as a bad address! thanks for the response--very helpful about the Mapp torch).
ReplyDeleteI love the story too. The pendant is great! Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteI agree and don't agree with the story, lol...
ReplyDeleteThere is an aspect of anger that protects our sense of our individuality...I don't see it as a matter of evil and good, just like a weapon is not inherently evil or good, but what you do with it can be. It's a big subject, though...like all of them, and I can take it as feeding a chronic sense of negativity, and that's pretty toxic.
I love the coloring on the pendant. Mary Ann has some really nice stuff on her etsy. Couldn't find the finished piece though, must be in an older post?
Maire: A great pendant that I'm sure you're going to turn into something spectacular!
ReplyDeletesuch a true story...the pendant is beautiful

ReplyDeleteThat's the tale I relate to my grandboys. I keep a copy of it on my bulletin board. Its special, isn't it, like most Indian teachings.
ReplyDeleteWhere your thoughts go so goes your energy, great story! I love the cherokee tales ( live 10 miles from the Eastern Band ) it is a big part of life here about , even if you are on the paleface side.
