expostulation to self

'we gain strength, and courage, and confidence
by each experience in which we really stop
to look fear in the face...
we must do that which we think we cannot.'
~ eleanor roosevelt

as i read through the blogs i am blown away by all that is going on... those with books or contributing to them... those included in periodicals... great shows, awards won... congratulations to you all...

making wishes is wonderful... but things only happen when a wish is accompanied by an action... are you pushing yourself? putting yourself out there? doing things you think you cannot? it is certainly necessary for personal growth, but also for the attainment of that which you desire...
eleanor roosevelt has always been a woman i admire... and i try to live by much that she has shared about life... this year i was privileged to have been invited into a jewelry exchange... and a book that was recommended to me was 'a charming exchange' by kelly snelling and ruth rae...
thanks to kelly, i now have another mantra in my arsenal - and that is:
'... get out of (your) own way.'
p. 63
'fear will stop you in your tracks and kill your creative impulses.'

thank you, thank you, thank you! now, i do have to remind myself - OFTEN... it is a practice... at this moment, i am afraid of ice resin - yes, stop laughing... and i have all of the excuses... 'my house isn't 72*' ... 'if i mess up, it will waste it' ... blah, blah, blah, stupid, stupid, stupid... so after erin's challenge is complete, i am doing it - really... by monday i will have pictures - there, i have locked myself into it now! :0)

how are you holding yourself back?
-----
ok, how weird is this? i get daily messages from the universe www.tut.com
and here was today's:
Should you choose to go, do, and be, mary jane, at the end of your life, shocked and dismayed, you'll likely exclaim that because of all the uncanny events, wild timing, weird coincidences, and sheer chance encounters, all of your life's good fortune must have been your destiny.

Or, should you choose to wait, wish, and hope, at the end of your life, shocked and dismayed, you'll likely exclaim that because of all the uncanny events, wild timing, weird coincidences, and sheer chance encounters, all of your life's bad luck must have been your destiny.

mary jane, do you see what the difference is?

It ain't me,
    The Universe

  1. what a great post...we all need a kick in the pants. i found the funniest little set of books at a local antique store yesterday. i was so charmed by the titles of these 1916 published tomes that i had to buy them all. i was trying to wade through the archaic language and conventions last night. there is some wonderful stuff and some very quaint. the book i was reading last night is called "opportunities: how to make the most of them". i think these may be the first self help books! i plan to share some of this on my own blog. so glad you are jumping into the challenge of ice resin. i love the stuff and need to play more (as soon as i can find where i packed it). why not use the ice resin with the hardware? now there is a thought... and stay tuned on monday for winners (plus a bonus prize i haven't mentioned yet) and the next challenge. looking forward to your reactions to the new process. thank you for sharing your bright light today. enjoy the day. erin

  2. "making wishes is wonderful... but things only happen when a wish is accompanied by an action"

this is so true .. do you contemplate and manifest? or do you only contemplate? many have missed out opportunities this way and live to regret it. cos you are only THIS particular age once ... you get older every second ... i have had many missed opportunities ... and it's not much use trying to catch up now, but i decided that i will still try ...

  4. Thanks for a wonderful post, Maire. It was a kick in the pants of sorts for me, personally, as I do think that fear limits much of what I do (or don't do) as an artist. More often I need to find that space where I can create without limits, without concern for what others may think or desire.

Your blog is one of the most beautiful and inspirational that I read - thank you immensely for sharing so much of yourself and insights with us.

  5. Okay, my Ice resin is still sitting in the box it arrived in because I was all excited to get it and then too chicken to play with it. Now that you've thrown down the gauntlet, I shall accept your challenge and try to get going with it!

  6. That Universe message just sent chills down my spine! It's like believing the glass is half empyy or half full, it's always about choice, free will, and actions taken or ignored.

I have a confession to make: I've had Ice Resin sitting in a drawer for over a year. Ack! Yes, I am afraid too! Mind over matter...

  7. Don't you just love Tut? It always puts a smile on my face, how uncanny? Fear is just the edges of your comfort zone. Push past , look it square in the metaphorical eye and ask yourself, why does this bother me ? And what can I learn from it? xxx

  8. Like I said earlier, your blog is always a must read, besides ogling your beautiful jewelry! Like a lightening bolt...now I realize other reasons I hate it when I “procrastinate”! And in a way, it is my “fear” that makes me push some things aside and I will tackle something easier. (The other reason is I’m naturally lazy...I fight the p-word, fear and laziness all the time!) Lucky for me, ”Fear will stop you in your tracks and kill your creative impulses” is my new mantra! Great inspiration...Thank you for the encouragement to try new things! (I’m googling “ice resin”...maybe I should add it to my “must try” list then I’m checking out “tut” too!) Maire Dodd, standup to the ice resin! You can do it! I'm looking forward to seeing the results!
