this is the view from my kitchen sink... i was greeted tonight by a beautiful sunset that i could see shimmering on the water now that the leaves have left the trees...
i might not have even noticed it...
but lucky for me, the dishwasher that was supposed to be installed requires some electrical work to be done (and they won't be back until tuesday)... the old one quit a couple of weeks ago but had put in about 30 years of service to my grandparents...
i might not have even noticed it...
so instead of loading these up into the new dishwasher then running down to the basement to catch up on laundry (because the dryer decided to call it quits too)...
i got to look at a sunset... and breathe... and see if i could remember the names of the colors of my fiesta ware dishes (and ponder whether or not i thought that chocolate and black should be a part of our collection)... and daydream... i thought about my grandmother standing at the sink at the end of her day - and i wondered what she thought about...
i'll bet she came to the same conclusion as i did...
life is good...
live it well...
demonstrate patience and kindness and gratitude...
hug your kids...
tell people you love them and appreciate them...
be present...
What a beautiful ambiance in which to complete chores. I bet your Grandmother took pause to enjoy many sights through that window.
ReplyDeleteI have Fiesta Ware too.
I don't remember the colors because I have always renamed them...
Maybe she was thinking "I wonder what my granddaughter will be thinking when she stands at this window"...
ReplyDeleteKeep looking out that window and not at the dishwasher!
ReplyDeleteGood to wonder about grandmothers while looking out the window at the end of the day, and I like your list. I was driving home from family tonight and saw that amazing sunset, well, a bit more up north here, but it was indeed amazing!
ReplyDeleteserenity is a cherished gift when you stop and take a breath...we did the same today and it was therapeutic beyond words....a beautiful day indeed!
ReplyDeletehow special to be standing at the same sink where your grandmother stood before you...i would love that.

ReplyDeletewater...how wonderful to see water out your kitchen window. I'm so happy to have a forest, but I'd love to see water.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely view from your window!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd how wonderful to be in a space where your family has lived before you - that must be a very special feeling.
MD- I wonder how many sunsets your grandmother witnessed from her sink. What a wonderful gift - to be able to feel the energy of your grandmother and soak in the energy of the natural envirnoment that was her everyday. Go well be energised. B
ReplyDeletevery nicely put. how we miss these things unless we are forced to see them sometimes. thankfully something forces us to do so and we are the better for it.
