(must be the lack of sleep that has made me brave this morning...
oh, hey, i notice my son has been in his bank! hmmm... )
here's the idea - you make a set of prayer flags in whatever way speaks to you - metal, paper, fiber, anything you wish to use... then hang them... take a picture of them in situ and share on september 21st... maybe we can have a central list going - i was thinking of making a page where you can add your name and link to it...
adding our wishes to so many others in the world can only magnify the effect...
in the meantime, i have been thinking about making necklaces -

'peace is not something you wish for;
it's something you make,
something you do,
something you are
and something you give away.'
- robert fulghum
wishing you peace today -
i'm off to smudge my workspace and get started...
lovely photo to accompany this idea...but I must also say that it's wonderful to see the face behind the idea! Your enthusiasm and smile will be infectious...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and thanks for the super long heads up on the project, that gives me time to get back to my sewing machine in my Alaskan studio. I love prayer flags. For my wedding we had muslin and fabric with wonder under fused to it and let people cut out pictures and make a square, My lovely maid of honor and some other friends ironed the pieces on for them. some were done in advance and some right at our DIY reception. She then made them all into a bunch of long prayer flags to hang around the place.

Brilliant idea!
ReplyDeletelove the idea of prayer flags..and enough time to do it right.
ReplyDeletei have just the place in mind to let them fly
What a beautiful picture! I'm glad that lack of sleep caused you to share this picture as I think I've only seen one of you after all these years. Just look at your bright smile! And yes, looks like someone emptied that piggy bank and made a run for it! ;-) Your prayer flag idea is really fantastic. I think you'll have a wonderful show of support!
ReplyDeleteof course that is a great idea. you know the first time I saw a picture of prayer flags in Tibet on the holy mountain where people walk miles and miles praying I was was just speechless. It was like seeing a picture of home. so fab and great pic xx
ReplyDeleteAh, so nice to see you, my friend. You are beautiful and so are your ideas!
ReplyDeletei'm in, i'm in, i'm in, i'm in, i'm in.... sing along with me. i'm in, i'm in, i'm in, i'm in, i'm in. =)
ReplyDeleteoh, and you look FABULOUS!! =)
ReplyDeleteMy jaw dropped. I shook my head a tiny bit and I know my eyes grew wide for a second when I read your post.
ReplyDeleteMy room is a mess and slowly being reorganized. I should be working on committments I have made in beading and sewing. For the last few weeks since this all began, the only thing I can think of is to make a prayer flag. I swear there is a spiritual connection between the two of us.
Maire!!! wow!! you have CHANGED! you look 10 years younger, enthusiastic, lovely, full of positive energy and ready ... perhaps for something (i dunno what) something , great :) My goodness ... you are rejuvenated in so many ways!!! Bless you my fren!
ReplyDeleteWell, I am in on this for sure, my beautiful friend!
ReplyDeleteMD-well done on the lack of sleep and brave front. 21 September I one of the days of the year I look forward to and love to be united with others on. Funny you should mention peace flags - one of our big rainbow umbrellas gave up yesterday - well long ago really - and I said to Fiona that it could be cut up and turned into peace flags - now you have given me even more of a reason to rescue and recycle. Looking forward to the necklace outcome. Go well. B
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see your beautiful face! And a great idea too!
ReplyDeleteYou look radiant! Count me in!
ReplyDeleteIt's so wonderful to see you sweet friend. Yes,please count me on this wonderful idea. I think visiting the other blogs with flags roaring through the sky will be a very powerful moment.xoxox
ReplyDeleteMJ, an uplifting idea...best of all i love seeing your beautiful smiling face!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, our thoughts have a kind of synchronicity. I just picked up my old copy of The Chalice and the Blade and although I usually fall asleep reading the first few paragraphs of anything, I gobbled up 15 pages and woke feeling alive and renewed. The thought of peace must be in the air. Although there are powerful and determined forces on this planet that say it can't be done, archaeology proves that it CAN and that we can all live as equals in harmony. I'm definitely in. The idea mill is churning. I love your photo-- it's wonderful to see your radiant face. You may have to change your avatar!
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea! Please count me in!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Beautiful self portrait!
I like that idea...marking the calendar!
ReplyDeleteLook at you! Wow! I'm smiling, and a bit giddy inside-ha! You look so happy and at peace. Way to go, MJ--we're doing it!

This is so beautiful! Thank you for doing it. I'm putting this project down on my list, so count me in :) peace and love, Beth
ReplyDeleteLove that pic of you!!! I was looking at that blue piggy in the back too - lol...
ReplyDeleteI will have to put this in my calendar - although I wish there was another way to remind me of it. Hmmm. Maybe I will have Chloe help me paint something on the wall for it...
For years, when asked by my family what I wanted for Christmas...on top of the list was World Peace. I'm not sure I'll get flags done, but I'll be with you in spirit.
