new year, new word & winner chosen!

where to begin?
at the beginning of course...

i wish for you all a newest year that brings peace, love, joy and abundance...

after carefully thinking on my word for the next 365.25 days
i have chosen 'release'...

and if i am diligent about my approach it will be most liberating.

on another note -

i was reading an article that said in our culture everything has become work.
we work when we work
we work when we exercise
we work when we play (if we play)

which brings me to something else i read about as homo sapiens
we are human beings
not human doings...

it's a rather important distinction - and i for one am finding myself a bit burnt out by living this way, the pace and demand that are a part of it.

the things i write about here, the words i explore and the ideas that swirl around them are all things that i am actively examining

and at the same time through the work i practice meditation.

win-win

speaking of win -
or fortuitous draw of the random number generator -
was the number 21
who is izzy -
who then in a random act of kindness asked for it to go to the next person
who is alice

so alice - the earrings are yours to wear and share as you wish
and izzy - what a beautiful way to begin this year on my blog with your kindness! thank you.

wishing you all the best -

  1. This past Sunday our preacher had a sermon on a similar vein as your post. He encouraged us to take time out and meditate, enjoy life, be thankful, etc. It was a great sermon. I have no trouble taking time out to just 'be still' and do nothing. But oddly, my twin sister does not know the meaning of doing nothing.

Yay, I'm so happy to be the winner! Thanks so much to you and to Izzy for her pay it forward act of kindness. I will see if I can do the same with a giveaway on my own blog. I'll email you with my mailing address.

    Have a wonderful week!!

  4. Thinking of the word release and how calm it makes me feel. You have chosen well. May 2013 be a year of being rather than over doing.

  6. Oh, this is a great post. I have been trying to convince Terry for quite a while to let go of the idea that he has to be working while he is home and should be relaxing.

Release is an appropriate word for your focus.

  7. Are the words 'release' and 'relief' almost synonyms? I won't look them up in the dictionary, at this very moment they are synonyms to me. Because I felt such a great relief reading your blog entry! I feel harassed by the demands of work too, the dreary activities necessary to make ends meet when our art is not enough for it. I'd like to be able to fly away from them, release myself from the heavy ground and find abundance in the free air. Make 'art' and 'life' synonyms too. I wonder if I can pull it off?

  8. Saw this on Tumblr.

  9. MJ - m,ay 2013 be a going forward kind of year; and releasing oneself from those things that tether us too much in the past certainly does inhibit the colour and light of our experiences in the present. Peace in the present. B
