young men

my man-child was promoted from the eighth grade last night... i adore alex - he and i regularly go back and forth, but we are supposed to... he is kind and loving... he doesn't yet know his potential... but i am trying to show him... the type who doesn't care much for school, frustrates his teachers to tears because they know he can do more, but problems solves real life situations easily, can take things apart or put them together... who thinks outside of the box... sounds like a great start to me! now if we can get him to use a notebook in high school we'll be off to a great start (do not get me started!)...

he would NOT let me get a picture yesterday in his gown... kept putting his hand up so i couldn't get a shot... i caught him because i said i was going out to start the car! ha!

i like this shot - better than a still... i can hear him laughing as he tries to get by me...

'may you grow up to be righteous, may you grow up to be true.
may you always know the truth and see the lights surrounding you.
may you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong.
may you stay forever young.'
~ bob dylan

love you, a  from your always proud mama...

  1. Part of me is saying you are lucky. Raising them to be good, richeous and true, yet have enough street smarts to avoid trouble IS partly luck. But the bigger part is raising him to be confident, inquisitive, humorous, and loving is not luck, of course you know that.

Now a really good thought, that I am holding on to also...I saw an interview with Bill Gates the other day. He said school and grades all came together for him in the 9th grade.

Congratulations Maire Dodd, it appears that you are doing a great job!

  11. Chloe is starting to do the hand to face: "mom, i don't want you to take a picture of me"... Eeek - she's only 2.5 years old. Although, she is (attitude-wise) going on 13 years old...

Congrats to Alex on getting to H.S. Something will click with him and he will realize that he's got great potential... there is always "something" for everyone out there...

  15. I just love teenagers when they are that age, on the threshold of high school and the promise of new adventures...in learning. ;)

Congratulations on raising some pretty awesome kids who will continue to make you proud!

  16. I loved that age in life. He doesn't know how fast it goes, none of us did! Looks like he is enjoying himself, that's important. Adulthood comes way too soon. Riki
