buried treasure -

seth apter of the altered page invited makers to participate in this collaborative project... to find a post of your own that you felt was like buried treasure...

my petals came into being this year - they are a visual representation of things i hold dear, and their manifestation was an evolution from a leaf form i make... but they are different to me, very much so, as the intentions are quite different... i chose to use this post... please read through to the end if you will as i would like to repeat my offering to readers...

if you occasionally stop by my blog, you will surely have noticed that these petals are something i am working on...

immersing myself in...

experimenting with...

desiring to make many of...

in different metals

with a few choice phrases, words, mantras...

i happened to notice that i had surpassed 400 posts the other day...

my 400th is when the petals were born...

so i would like to share one with you to express my gratitude for your coming by and thoughtfully reading and expressing what you have to say -

just leave a comment, nothing fancy...

the recipient will be chosen on monday...

in peace -

mary jane

++ in honor of seth's giving spirit, i too, would like to offer something... one of these copper petal forms... you may leave a comment and i will choose in one week - 7.18 at 9pm...

thank you, seth, for all you do to bring people together...

  1. They really are beautiful! Certainly worthy of unearthing to warmer summer days. I can't help but think of my garden where the leaves are all looking very sad for water but the petals hold strong. Metal and petal a match in my mind

  2. I am thinking of the symbolism in the introduction of your leaves being your 400th post. The Universe is always at work.

  3. Love the petals. I have been considering how to put messages on my leaves , but thought the stamping would get hammered out in the forging. I recently tried decoupaging and lacquering paper onto them and quite like this affect. I'm all for art with intention.

  4. As much as the petals, I like the words you find for them. I've recently started yoga & there's something very calming in the way you incorporate the words....

  5. Love your petals! They are very true to life, like a real petal, in that there is something brave and fragile about them at the same time. Petals do what they do--unfurl, unselfconsciously share their glory, and fall to the ground where they disintegrate and become part of the soil again. We are like that, I think--brave without meaning to be, it's just how we must live, and at least physically, compared to other kinds of things and creatures, short lived and vulnerable. We unfurl, display our beauty, and eventually fall to the ground. I'm not sure what the petal means to you personally, MJ, but to me it seems a noble symbol and something to aspire to.

  6. Pondering petals - such beautiful ephemera of the plant world. Such a fireworks of colour, texture and form. Delicate beauty...

  7. MJ- such a great concept of Seth's - a way of enabling folk to celebrate what they did in the past and yet through the republishing of the past show how that past has formed the foundation of where one is now. Your petals were and are a gentle, quiet and yet strong statement of who you are and where you are travelling. Go well. B

  10. I love the way your work is headed..and of course the petals..
I find revisiting my past work stimulating..it seems to renew creative sparks when I've hit a fallow place ..and heads me down a different path each time..similar but different.
