earth day work

leaf earrings in brass - 2012

leaves with heavy verdigris application - 2012

the day was spent making leaves in different shapes, colors and sizes...

we had some very much needed rain

and saw 'chimpanzee' at the movies...

crescent moon

crescent earrings and pendant 2012

the crescent moon is the most identifiable moon visually... in its full state, it can be confused with other circular symbols...

myths about the crescent date back to ancient times and come from all over the globe...

mine is not the true slim slice often seen as i needed more body for the jewelry forms i envisioned... but i hope it evokes that mystery...

lightly

petals in brass - 2012

'lightly, child, lightly.
you've got to learn to do everything lightly.
think lightly, act lightly, feel lightly.
yes, feel lightly, even though you're feeling deeply.'
- aldous huxley island

it was interesting today to realize that while working with a stiff metal,

heating & reheating

hammering

folding & unfolding

gently bending and forming,

i was, in fact, doing it lightly...

(contented sigh)

much gratitude to robyn gordon at art propelled  for sharing this passage... i immediately got the book and have since finished it...

a beautiful & worthwhile read...

pacing -

this chain, this labor of love, made me realize that i am not rushing the project for saturday... as i am still working out the balance in the design and far too much time has been invested in the components... i have a piece i can submit and i can work on this one feeling confident that it is getting the time it deserves...

earrings made with lampwork glass by mika collins at pinocean ... proceeds of these will go to the american red cross japan relief fund...

findings have their place

diane cook and brass bouquet owner jill sponsored a 'with one finding' challenge through today (perhaps my only consistency in is life making a deadline on the deadline date)...

it is inspired by the leaf covered forest floor... shafts of late afternoon light... rich soil... and the forgotten treasures that lie beneath it...

i had not worked in a vintage-y way in a long time... what drew me to this challenge was being able to alter the finding with, you guessed it, patina! shannon writes about this process in her color drenched metal tutorial... i riveted the filigree onto an etched piece of brass... in my stash i have some beads from a chandelier... and i used silks from lisa jurist ...
