bittersweet

a week filled with everything... none of them feeling small...

a dear aunt diagnosed with a grave illness debilitated to the point of no normal daily activity seemingly overnight... it is there i have been - with her at appts and at home... remembering my grandmother today - for it is her birthday, the first one we have had without her...

trying ever so hard to balance it with the kids, getting them ready for the first day of school on friday... and for the first time in over a decade, missing them at the afterschool pick up...

learning about aging rats - and what they go through (yes, the universe loves to show you just how many balls you can keep up in the air)... and so we are making adjustments to his living arrangements...

i have barely been on the internet, or doing anything besides being in my car going from one place to the next...

but i had started these pieces for cycle art - a show that will be at a local used bike shop...

my chest feeling like it is being crushed, touching this for even the moments it took to wrap a wire was a nice connection - i love nan's open hand, and it fit right into this chunky repurposed focal...

a rusty piece which i felt was perfect for the message 'present moment'... i have plans to use old cassette ribbon and fibers...

hope you are enjoying your labor day weekend...

exploration

part of sculptoure 2010 in asbury park

'exploration is really the essence of the human spirit.'
frank borman

the august art bead scene carnival blog topic iiiis - exploration...

exploring your world with open eyes gives you new perspectives... this sculpture is created from the debris found on the beach - it is a statement about pollution...

exploring color can take you places you never thought of - like tie dye with yellow, turquoise and lime... emily has now used every color in the spectrum! i go with the flow - my only request was to do lime and yellow in the summer when my snow white complected daughter has a bit of color!

exploring simplicity can cause you to think 'hmmmm'...

exploring a used bike shop (to scavenge pieces for an art exhibit) can really make you see things differently  - i spy bracelet links...

suspension parts for pendants... thanks to kerri who owns and runs second life bikes, a community oriented shop...

'i want to ride my bicycle.
i want to ride my bike.
i want to ride my bicycle.
i want to ride it where i like.'
~ queen 'bicycle race'

exploration is a call to freedom...

this balanced? seriously?

camera located - yay!
favorite pliers misplaced - boo!

i like this kind of balance:

'life is like riding a bicycle.
to keep your balance you must keep moving.'

forward, onward, upward... and hopefully backward by only one step!

going to participate in a show to benefit a local bike shop, second life bikes - we have to use bike parts in the work we make... it is being held by the belmar arts council  ... local arts councils are so great (as i am learning)... em and nick took a beginning digital photography class there last night and loved it...

i am working on things - but not yet finished pieces... and the abs is underway here as well...

in summer, henna is a tradition... here are some of the tats we are sporting!
