exploration

part of sculptoure 2010 in asbury park

'exploration is really the essence of the human spirit.'
frank borman

the august art bead scene carnival blog topic iiiis - exploration...

exploring your world with open eyes gives you new perspectives... this sculpture is created from the debris found on the beach - it is a statement about pollution...

exploring color can take you places you never thought of - like tie dye with yellow, turquoise and lime... emily has now used every color in the spectrum! i go with the flow - my only request was to do lime and yellow in the summer when my snow white complected daughter has a bit of color!

exploring simplicity can cause you to think 'hmmmm'...

exploring a used bike shop (to scavenge pieces for an art exhibit) can really make you see things differently  - i spy bracelet links...

suspension parts for pendants... thanks to kerri who owns and runs second life bikes, a community oriented shop...

i want to ride my bike.
i want to ride my bicycle.
i want to ride it where i like.'

exploration is a call to freedom...

the cheshire cat has long faded and grown out...

which naturally means it is time for something new - it was a good diversion for me... i am stalling, if i am to be honest - the artist's statement is done... it's the leap into resume i am about to take...

leopard spots on the sides and back

last october after the zombie walk, i got em some prosthetic makeup... the kids and i used it for halloween... it was something she was considering as a career until someone in the business told her to forget about it - everything would soon be cgi... she was heart broken  (and i am still a bit skeptical)... i have a hard time believing that there will be no make up and special effects people left... the cost and time benefit of using cgi is undisputed... but surely, it won't make hands on obsolete?
took the kids to see 'clash of the titans' - see this in 2d if you go & save yourself the extra $4 they charge for 3d - it just isn't necessary...
she loved the effect used for hades' eyes...

and then decided to give her brothers black eyes...

nick thinks it is hysterical and wants to wear it to school - i am trying to gently explain that is a really bad idea!

the boys are such willing victims volunteers...

i am working at preparing photos to put on a cd at specifications that are new to me ~

awaiting the wild things -

i am sure that like me, many of you are awaiting the release of 'where the wild things are'- filled with curiosity and a child-like desire to go back in time for just a little while... in some theaters, it opens at midnight tonight... sendak's book was published in 1963... his wild things were inspired by family visits to relatives living in brooklyn... giving pinches on his cheeks, stating things like, 'i'll eat you up'...

the 'really rosie' movie came out when i was around ten and was one of my favorites; it was  right up there with 'it's the great pumpkin, charlie brown'...  this is my book that i got thru the scholastic weekly reader program way back when... the kids got a kick out of seeing that i really had been small once, as evidenced by the writing... and that i am old, because there is no room #18 in the school anymore - they go/have gone there too... we actually have the soundtrack in my car - listening to carol king sing 'one was johnny' is great for the early school run...

years ago, when i got the book, i found this quote and taped it inside... i had forgotten it & was glad that i found it...

this is an exhibit going on in nyc... i was kind of sad when i looked up the please touch museum in philly this morning... when emily was little, sendak had collaborated with them and created an area that was dedicated to his books - 'in the night kitchen', 'where the wild things are', etc... there were max costumes that the kids could put on and a slide of pouring milk that went into a large bowl... i was going to include that here but i don't see any evidence of that being there anymore...

and last, but never least, is one of my wild things - who is happily back to color after a short blonde hiatus...

this time we did a fade from very light pink to cherry bomb...

the movie is described as  a comedy... but i am bringing tissues... i always cry at the movies!
